Size
The Capitol Building rises seven stories high. The full basement is only just partially below grade with windows all around. The floor plate of each of the floors is about 17,000 sq. ft.
Construction
The Capitol Building was erected in 1919 in just 78 days. The interior structure consists of very well spaced solid timber columns supporting solid timber beams and two inch thick solid timber planks topped by three inches of concrete in turn topped by restored or newly installed maple flooring. Perimeter support is provided by narrow brick piers encasing steel girders. The building features fully exposed 11’ high timber ceilings. Large aluminum frame thermal windows with operating casements are featured in all four walls. There are 2 passenger elevators completely upgraded in 2009 and one freight elevator.
Heating & Air Conditioning
The top three floors of the Capitol building are heated electrically and cooled and ventilated by several roof mounted Air conditioning units. The bottom five floors are heated and cooled by a very energy efficient heat pump system. All units have some operable windows to provide fresh air supplementary to the HVAC system.
Electrical
The power available to the units is 208 Volt, 3 phases. 3600 amps of power are available to the Building.
Safety
The building’s sprinkler system has been upgraded. In addition, a stand pipe system has been installed to provide two fire hose cabinets per floor. A fire alarm system, emergency lighting and fire extinguishers have been installed throughout. Regular testing and maintenance of all life safety systems is a top priority of the Capitol Buildings organization.
Security
The Capitol Building’s entrance doors are locked automatically outside of regular business hours. An intercom by the front door allows visitors to contact tenants via the tenants' telephones. After hours, the front door and passenger elevators can only be opened with a key fob that activates a proximity reader. The key fobs are issued on a restricted basis upon payment of a refundable deposit and they may be individually deactivated if necessary. After hours, the building is patrolled periodically by a security guard. In addition, a video surveillance system has been installed. In case of emergency, Capitol Buildings can be contacted by dialing our regular office number which is answered by an answering service. We have a designated employee on call on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergencies.
Internet Access
There is high-speed fibre service in the building used by a variety of Internet service providers.
