Size
The Systems Building is a five-storey structure. Each floor comprises about 12,000 sq. ft.
Construction
The north side of the Systems Building was constructed in 1910 of heavy wood timbers and brick. In 1926 the south side of the building was constructed as an addition. However, in place of wood supporting columns, steel beams were used. The perimeter of the addition was constructed of brick to match the existing structure. The original maple floors were maintained wherever possible.
Heating & Air Conditioning
The Systems Building is heated and cooled by a very energy efficient heat pump system. Each suite has individual control over its own heating and cooling. In addition, each suite has operable windows that allow for the introduction of supplementary fresh air.
Electrical
The power available to the units is 208 Volt - 3 phase. As a result of recent upgrades that involved the installation of 13.8 KVA transformer, 4000 amps of power are available to the Building. At the same time a new electrical distribution system brought ample power to new electrical panels on each of the floors of the Building. Check meters allow electrical consumption to be calculated for each of the units.
Safety
The building’s sprinkler system has been upgraded. In addition, a stand pipe/ fire hose system has been installed. A fire alarm system, emergency lighting and fire extinguishers have been installed throughout. Regular testing and maintenance of all life safety systems is a top priority of the Capitol Buildings organization.
Security
The Systems Building’s entrance doors are locked automatically outside of regular business hours. An intercom by the front door allows visitors to contact tenants via the tenants' telephones. After hours, the front door and passenger elevators can only be opened with a key fob that activates a proximity reader. The key fobs are issued on a restricted basis and may be individually deactivated if necessary. After hours the building is patrolled periodically by a security guard. In addition, a video surveillance system has been installed. In case of emergency, Capitol Buildings can be contacted by dialing our regular office number day or night. We have a designated employee on call on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergencies.
Internet Access
There is high-speed fibre service in the building used by a variety of Internet service providers.
Parking
There is a parking lot operated by an independent operator directly behind the building where paid daily and monthly parking is available.
